Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at missmorgan@dancinginthewings.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, we offer a trial class for new students to try out a class before committing to a full session. Simply register in the portal and we will be expecting you at the next class! Your child can try out the class for a week to make sure it is a good fit!

You can do almost everything in the parent portal! You will use the portal to register for classes, add/update contact information, view your schedule, pay tuition/fees, view announcements, and more!

Dress Code:

Proper dance attire not only helps the dancers move more freely, but it also allows the instructor to see the dancers’ bodies clearly and allows for alignment corrections. This in turn protects dancers from injuries! Please try to have the required attire for each class within two weeks of classes starting.

All items required for our dress code can be purchased at our store - Upstage Dance Supply. The store is in the back unit of the building. Our store is there to make it as easy as possible for our dance families to get what they need!

Refer to the dress code below to plan accordingly for classes…

Our dress code is as follows...

  • Ballet: Leotard (any style or color), tights (any style or color), PINK leather or canvas ballet shoes. Form fitted cover-ups such as ballet skirts, knit shorts, ballet sweaters, or leg warmers allowed. Boys: plain t-shirt (any color), black pants or shorts, black leather or canvas ballet shoes.
  • Jazz: Leotard (any style or color), tights (any style or color), shorts or leggings allowed over tights and leotard, black leather jazz shoes required for students in Level III and up. Boys: plain t-shirt (any color), black pants or shorts, black leather jazz shoes.
  • Acrobatics: Leotard (any style or color), no tights (unless they are footless or stirrup style), shorts or leggings allowed, no shoes required. Boys: plain t-shirt (any color), black pants or shorts, no shoes required.
  • Hip-Hop: Street style clothing such as jogger pants, sweatpants, leggings, or shorts allowed. Black and white tennis shoes (of any style) required. Shoes for hip-hop should be designated as studio shoes and NOT be worn as street shoes outside of class.
  • Tap: Leotard (any style or color), tights (any style or color), shorts or leggings allowed over tights and leotard, black slide on with bow tie tap shoe required for Tap I, black lace up tap shoe required for Tap II and up. Boys: plain t-shirt (any color), black pants or shorts, black lace up tap shoe.

We do NOT require specific styles or colors of dance wear like leotards, tights, skirts, etc. We love to see your dancer express themselves through their style!

Most of our classes have set age ranges that make registration easy. If you have any questions about what class would be the best fit, feel free to reach out and ask!

We offer many styles of dance for ages 2 and up. If you aren't sure what style would be the best fit for your dancer, feel free to try out more than one for a week to see what is their favorite! If you have questions about the styles we are happy to help explain them!

Your dancer can take as many or as few classes as works for your schedule. We offer ballet/jazz, acrobatics, hip-hop, tap, and more! Many of our dancers take multiple styles each week and love it!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up:

When you arrive at the studio…

  • Dancers ages 10 and below should not be dropped off more than FIVE minutes early.
  •  Dancers ages 11 and up may be dropped off up to 10 minutes early.
  • If you need to drop your child off earlier than this, please reach out to the director to ask for permission to ensure that there is staff available to supervise your child.

After your child’s class is over…

  • Classes will begin to pack up and dismiss five minutes early to allow time for transitions.
  • If your dancer is under the age of 10, you will need to come to the door to pick them up.
  • Dancers ages 10 and over may walk to their vehicles so long as we can see the vehicle from the door.
  • Please make every effort to be prompt in picking up your child. If you know that you are going to be late, please text or call the director to let the class instructor know.

Tuition Rates:

Tuition is billed monthly and is based upon the number of hours your child dances each week. Tuition rates can be found on our website (www.dancinginthewings.com) at the bottom of the "Class Schedule" tab.

Tuition Payment:

Tuition is paid in monthly installments, and price is based upon the number of hours your child dances each week. Payments are due on the 1st of the month, and are considered late after the 10th. There is a $10.00 late fee. Students who have not paid their tuition in full by the time of recital will NOT be allowed to dance.

If there is an underlying financial circumstance in which you cannot pay your tuition in full, please don’t hesitate to communicate with me. I will be more than willing to negotiate a payment plan for extenuating circumstances.

You may pay your tuition in cash, online payment, or check made payable to Dancing in the Wings LLC. If paying in check please include a detailed memo (ex: January tuition, recital fee, etc.).

There is a $25 returned check fee. If your check is returned, you will have a two-week grace period from the time you are informed to pay the tuition and returned check fee.

No financial adjustments will be given for missed classes. Tuition is based on a monthly rate and will not be discounted or prorated for absences.

Recital Fees:

There is a $35 recital fee for each recital. Families with more than one dancer enrolled will pay one recital fee. The recital fee for the Winter recital is due with your August tuition and the recital fee for the Spring recital is due with your January tuition.

Costume Deposit:

You will be required to pay a $30/recital dance costume deposit for EACH costume you dancer wears for each recital. This deposit goes towards the total cost of costumes for the recital and covers the majority of the costs. Costume deposits are due by September 1st for the Fall semester and January 11th for the Spring recital.  You will receive a separate invoice for the remaining cost of your child’s costumes around the end of October and March.

Refunds:

Dancing in the Wings does not offer refunds for tuition or recital fees at any time and only offers refunds for costume deposits only if the costume has not already been ordered.

General Studio Rules:

  • Students are expected to be kind to their classmates and teachers. Dance class should be a fun and welcoming environment for all!
  • Students are expected to be ready for their classes. Please arrive dressed according to the dress code and with your hair ready. Parents of younger students should have their child use the restroom at home before getting dressed for dance class so that we can limit the amount of time spent using the restroom during class.
  • No gum, food, or drinks other than water are allowed in the studio. If your child brings any drink other than water (Gatorade, juice, flavored water) they will not be permitted to drink it. We will provide them with a small cup of water if they ask for a drink.
  • Please do not allow your child to bring toys or games to class.
  • No cell phones are to be out of the dancers’ bags during class time. If they become a distraction during class and break times, they will be confiscated until the end of class.
  • Parents are not allowed to stay in the studio during classes. It causes a distraction for all the children in the class.
  • Please remember that dance class, while fun, is still a place for learning. We want the students to learn and grow in their dancing while also having a great time with their peers. While the goal is to provide a fun environment, students are still expected to be attentive and respectful to their teachers, classmates, and themselves.

Attendance:

Students who miss more than FOUR classes in the course of the semester will not be permitted to dance in the recital. If an injury or illness results in more than four absences, a doctor’s note(s) will be requested to excuse the absence.

Make-Up Classes:

Make-up classes will be offered if a regularly scheduled class is canceled by the instructor for reasons other than weather (illness, other commitment, etc.). If your child misses a class for any reason, make-up classes are not offered. If you feel that your child needs additional practice because of an absence, private lessons are offered for $30/hour. Please make attendance a priority!

Inclement Weather:

During the winter months, Dancing in the Wings will NO LONGER follow the cancellation decisions of Pulaski County Public Schools. Please refer to our social media pages (Facebook and/or Instagram) to see if the studio will be open in the case of inclement weather. A decision will be made and posted on social media by NOON.

If you have concerns about driving to classes, please text or call to inform the instructor that you will not be attending class. Absences for this reason will be excused.

When classes are canceled for inclement weather it is beyond the control of DITW. No make-up classes will be offered.

We do NOT offer adult classes at this time, but hope to in the future!
